Single Player Blast! August 13, 2010 zoo keeper (Romsey) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Most of the reviews of Bad Company 2 quite rightly concentrate on the multiplayer aspects of the game. after all, it's what it's all about.
However, I thought I would say a few words on the single player experience for those players, like me, who only play single player games.
I bought BC2 at sale price. I wasn't expecting too much from it. I was expecting a single player version of multiplayer style games. Wow! I was wrong!
It's easy to describe it as a "Poor Man's Call of Duty". Indeed, much of it is very similar to "CoD Modern Warfare". The keyboard layout is very similar too. However, it would do it an injustice. It is far better than that description would suggest.
Graphically, it's excellent (but not quite as good as CoD). The battles are smaller than the biggest CoD battles. However, they are challenging (at least for me!) and exciting.
There is a huge variety of scenarios. Every avenue seems to be explored. You fight in jungles, deserts, snowy mountains, streets etc. You fight on foot. Call in air and artillery strikes. You fight in motor vehicles, boats, helicopters and tanks. Sometimes you drive. Sometimes you're the gunner. Sometimes both!
The weapons (about 30 variations of assault rifles, sub machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, shotguns and light machine guns)compare very favourably to CoD. The grenade launchers on the assault rifles are very powerful and capable of taking out lightly armoured vehicles and helicopters.
Some have criticised it for being too scripted. It's certainly very linear and the corridor is quite narrow but it certainly ensures that the action is relentless and exciting.
There are two big bonuses. One is that everything that you can see, you can use. It might be a gun but it could be a motor vehicle. If you shoot the driver, it's yours! The other is that everything that you can blow up in real life can be blown up in the game. You can blast every house to pieces and clear out the enemy. Of course, they can do the same to you!
It's much longer than I expected. It's slightly longer than a Call of Duty campaign and very replayable.
To any single players who wonder whether it's worth it, I say: "Yes!" it's a little gem, giving a CoD style experience at a third of the price.
A couple of points August 6, 2010 Mr. M. Mcdonnell 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Firstly this game is very good but takes a bit of getting used to, if you are a Modern warefare 2 player expect to die a lot because it is all about teamwork not just a run around shooter.
No hackers thanks to dedicated servers, if they do join in well they are kicked out.
Only hick up i had was when i went to play online i found that i didn't get many servers also couldn't join games that freinds were in.
The problem turned out to be that the update did not do it's job so i had to right click on the game icon and went into the game files then run the update as administrator then it updated properly and all is well.
I hope this helps.
Multiplayer is the key! May 4, 2010 Jason Bond (Bedford UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The single player will provide you with enough enjoyment to get used to the controls ( except the helicopter, i'd advise you spend time at this ). Where this game hits the button is in the online multiplayer.
The game had teething issues at the start because they didn't expect the online turnout they got which caused problems. Now these have been sorted all you have to worry about is Punkbuster. I had the problem that i got kicked from any punkbuster server before i even stepped foot in it. This was because of my Firewall stopping PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe from connecting to the servers. You can resolve this problem by contacting the Punkbuster team on there web ticket system and they will help resolve the problem.
The stats are great inventive and help keep the game interesting.
Gameplay can be slow for the snipers and beginners but fast for the Gunners and more advanced players, All in one server! Because the maps are so big it gives you time to regroup and go back out to the action.
With the option of joining specific 4 man squads in the servers you can spawn right next to your team in the thick of the action, Or you can hold back and spawn back at your base near the Tanks, Helis, Quad bikes, Humvees etc.
Brilliant game i advise you buy it alongside a new GPU because it is quite thirsty.
Great game April 3, 2010 Wags 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Despite the bugs and initial problems with the EA server and punk-buster, this is now a good game. The single player is quite short, but is worth playing, but it is the multi-player game which is of course the main reason to buy this, which is great!

Single play campain:
* Skill level is pretty easy. If you played some fps before, you can play it at skill level hard.
* Campain is lots of fun and motivating.
* Graphics are really good.
Multiplayer:
* I did not have the reported connection problems. They are most likely solved.
* Takes a long time to rank up - so you have to stick with the poor guns for a while....
* Different game and player modes. Gives you a long time motivation to play on.
==> In my oppinion best game since CoD4 - MW
==> A must buy!
P.S. I'am from Germany - so if you fond some spelling misstakes; you can keep them!
