Snow Leopard Compatibility November 16, 2009 Denis D (U) 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
I've just switched from PC to Mac so just to make sure I downloaded the trial version and used it for a month before buying this and I'm glad I did as the price has dropped significantly. Be assured that it's perfectly compatible with OS X vs 10.6. Previously I'd been using the original Photoshop CS but this does all I want and much more. It's come down another fiver since I ordered mine so this is a real bargain!
Long awaited addition to Mac systems November 12, 2009 Peter Bailey (Kent, UK) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
The Apple mac computers have excellent graphics but the editing capabilities of iPhoto software is very limited.
Elements 8 now provides all the editing faciities for most photographers and at a reasonable price.
A Must Have! January 23, 2010 C. Watts (UK) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac OS X is a welcome release. This version brings the relevant power of Photoshop CS4 to home users and enthusiasts. If you feel a bit limited with iPhoto for creativity sake, be prepared to be astounded at what Adobe developers have done with version 8.
The well designed interface has been carefully presented for the newbie as well as for the most seasoned user, the colour of the interface can be changed in preferences if you feel some tools blend to easily into the darker background. To the right of the user interface you will see three tabs that define the workflow "EDIT - FULL, QUICK, GUIDED" three choices depending on your knowledge and experience. Full enables you to have complete manual control over your projects. Quick is excellent for making basic changes without many complicated steps. The third option is a bit of hand holding for first timers and those new to photo editing. "CREATE ' tab enables you to produce CD/DVD covers and labels, web galleries, prints, slideshows and the much loved photo books. The "SHARE" tab enables you to export your projects in a variety of ways, uploading to web galleries, emailing to friends or burning them to CD, all with the greatest of ease.
One difference we noted compared to the Windows version is that instead of having an organiser built in we have included in the package Adobe Bridge that works in a similar way to iPhoto from Apple, a cataloging tool. If you prefer to continue to use iPhoto then you can make sure you select Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 as your external editor.
Whats New
Adobe RAW Plug-in
For the prosumer who uses a Digital SLR Camera the latest Adobe RAW plug-in has been added, which means that instead of importing JPEGs into edit you can import your cameras RAW shots even from the newest of models.
Recompose Tool
Technology taken from its big brother Adobe Photoshop CS4, this tool splices out unwanted sections of an image, lets take for instance a group shot but within that shot one person is further away than the others in the image, this tool will bring them closer without distorting the whole picture. Simply amazing!
Scene Cleaner
This feature is so useful. Lets take the scenario that you are trying to take a shot of an object but when you take it people walk in the way of it, so you take another one and then another one and on the third try people seem to be in the shot but not exactly in front of the object. What you can do with Scene Cleaner is import all those shots together as though they are stacked up, and miraculously all those people disappear. Isn't that fantastic?
Exposure Photomerge
The best way describe this feature is a simple HDR (High Dynamic Range) tool. Simply take your shot at varying exposures import them into Exposure Photomerge and blend them together to make the best dynamic range shot the easy way.
Other Interesting Features
There are some other interesting tools for instance Toothbrush & Blue Skies these speak for themselves but skies are often difficult to capture in an appealing way so to have a warm blue sky is now going to be that much easier. Smart Brush is a tool that some may find invaluable if you like to paint on special effects into your pictures. Surface Blur is another tool that helps you smooth certain areas of an image without losing the overall sharpness of the picture. The most common scenario would be a portrait shot where you may remove wrinkles or other imperfections from a face.
Conclusion
Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 is the best yet, exciting new features for photography enthusiasts bringing many of the powerful tools from Photoshop to the home user at an affordable price.
The application is geared for all types of users the workspace can be adjusted for beginners and as they progress they can adjust the interface to Edit (Full) and be as creative as they know how. If you need professional power without the price tag then Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 will exceed your every expectation.
"Photoshop for the rest of us" October 28, 2009 S. Ranford (UK) 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
"Photoshop for the rest of us" basically. Great product for anyone who is semi-serious about photography and who doesn't want to spend £600 on Photoshop CS4.
Compatible with Mac OS X v10.4.11 through 10.5.8 or Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) so ignore the naïve reviews from people who don't know how to research properly and who don't actually own the software and have given low marks.
I'm a graphic designer (who mainly uses Photoshop) and therefore arrogant and skilled enough to back up my opinion.
Five stars.
MAC Elements 8 December 4, 2009 Mr. Peter J. Hicks (UK) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Brilliant just brilliant made more so because mac users get a full copy of adobe bridge pc users don't ha!; I am new to it so far though but love it. I did buy also the book called "the missing manual" which I could not do with out, much thicker than I expected when it arrived over 500 pages but so written and which anyone can read and understand so I do recommend this also - sorry.
